It is an exciting time to be in St George and the rest of the nation is taking notice. From the growth of Dixie State University to the widening on Bluff Street, the atmosphere in St George is lively. However, it was just this past year in 2017, but in 2016, St George was the 6th fastest growing city.
While it is hard to pinpoint the specific reason to the growth, there are several things to be noted. Dixie State University broke records this year as they opened the fall semester with 9,673 students. It was an 7.5% increase in total headcount. It was also the largest freshman intake the school has seen. The school has also added 7 new majors and will also feature 3 new masters degree program in accountancy, genetic counseling and software development. Dixie State University is shedding its junior college reputation and is making very exciting changes.
St George is also becoming recognized as an ideal second home option for snowbirds because of its mild winter. Sun River is a popular retirement community which features a year round active golf course community. When the golf course is literally a golf cart ride away, then you know you’re in the perfect place. But maybe you’re looking to spend your retirement on the finer things in life? Stone Cliff is a beautiful gated luxury community where everyone is mindful of one another. It is here where you’ll want to see and visit. It is minutes from downtown St George, the airport, the hospital, and the freeway. We recently sold our last home at $2.5M as it was featured in the annual Southern Utah Parade of Homes.
Another reason to the growth of St George is due to the increase of tourism. Many tourist stay in St George while they visit the surrounding national parks. Yes, that is national parks with an “s”. From St George, tourists can visit Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Grand Canyon National Park. It is also here is St George where the Huntsman World Senior Games and the Ironman race is held. So much is happening here is St George that you’d almost be missing out if you weren’t here.
